Caring for Your Figures and Play Sets
A well-made toy can last for decades, whether it lives on a shelf or gets carried around in a backpack. A little care keeps colours bright and joints working, so here are a few habits worth building from the first day a new piece comes home.
Display and storage
- Keep figures out of direct sunlight. UV light fades paint and can yellow vinyl and resin over time, even indoors near a bright window.
- Watch the temperature. Soft vinyl and plastics can warp or go tacky in hot spaces such as attics, cars or the top of a radiator.
- Give pieces room. Painted surfaces that press against each other for months can stick or transfer colour. A small gap on the shelf prevents this.
- Save the packaging. For limited pieces, the original box and inserts are part of the item. Store them flat and dry if you open your toys.
Cleaning
Dust is the most common enemy of a display. A soft makeup brush or a clean, dry paintbrush lifts dust out of sculpted details without scratching. For grubbier play-worn toys, use a cloth lightly dampened with plain water, then let the piece air-dry fully. Avoid alcohol, solvents and household sprays, which can strip paint and dull finishes.
Playing with collectible pieces
Many of our figures are designed to be handled, not just admired. If a figure has articulated joints, move them gently and in the direction they were built to go, especially when the toy is cold and the material is stiffer. Play sets work best on a flat, stable surface, and small accessories are easiest to keep track of in a labelled pouch or tray.
Younger children should always play with toys suited to their age, as small parts can be a choking hazard. Check the age guidance on each item and supervise play with anything containing tiny pieces.
