How a Ghost Fox Figure Comes Together

Every figure starts long before anything is sculpted. Most ideas begin as loose sketches: a character with a particular posture, a small story about where it lives, or a mood we want a shelf to carry. We keep these drawings rough on purpose, because a toy needs to read clearly from across a room. If a silhouette doesn't feel distinctive as a simple outline, it usually goes back into the sketchbook.

Once a character feels right, it moves into sculpting and prototyping. This is where proportions get tested in the hand rather than on paper. A head that looks charming in a drawing can feel too heavy in three dimensions, and a pose that seems dynamic can make a figure tip over. We expect several rounds of small adjustments here, and we see that slow refinement as part of the craft rather than a delay.

Why we work in limited runs

Keeping collections limited lets us treat each release as a complete idea instead of an endless product line. A small run means we can experiment with colourways, finishes and character concepts that might never suit mass production. It also means each piece belongs to a specific moment in the studio's history, which is part of what many collectors enjoy about designer toys. You can see how individual series fit together on our Collections page.

Toys made for display and for play

The designer and art toy scene has grown into a genuine creative culture, with independent studios, sculptors and painters all exploring what a small figure can say. We see Ghost Fox as part of that tradition: objects that sit happily on a desk or bookshelf, but that still invite you to pick them up, turn them around and imagine their story. We think good toys should hold up to both attention and affection.

Following along

Because so much of the work happens between the first sketch and the finished figure, we like sharing that middle stage openly. Our Studio Notes cover works in progress, design decisions and the occasional idea that didn't make it.
